Essentially I have a deathstack of 120 mostly tier 4+ horse archers, many of which are Khan’s Guards or the lower ones on the same tree. Any battle with less than 200 opponents ends with at most 10 casualties for me, but when I get into a big battle (600v600) in an army they get decimated (usually 20-40 deaths + 20-40 casualties).Infantry only is perfectly viable provided you make sure you keep enough mounts in your inventory to keep your speed up, too many will slow you down so about 1 per soldier does the trick.
